“Getting To Know Us Getting To Know All About Us” Learning Styles & Multiple Intelligences 6th LIFE Science Mrs. Bright
STANDARD 6-1.2 6-1.2 “Differentiate between observation and inference during the analysis and interpretation of data.” Students will be creating a bar graph based on data from their learning styles inventory and multiple intelligence inventory.
Learning With Style • Learning styles are different ways of learning. • Visual • Auditory • Kinesthetic
Visual • Visual learners learn through seeing. ● STRATEGIES to help you learn: • Use visual materials such as pictures, maps, charts, diagrams, etc. • Use color to highlight important points. • Take notes • Illustrate your ideas as a picture before writing them down. • Write a story and illustrate it. • Use multi-media (computer, video, etc.) • Study in a quiet place away from verbal distractions. • Pay attention to illustrations in books. • Visualize information as a picture to aid memorization.
Auditory • Auditory learners learn through hearing. • STRATEGIES to help you learn: • Participate in class discussions. • Make speeches and presentations. • Tape record your notes then listen to them. • Read your text aloud. • Create musical jingles to aid memorization. • Discuss your ideas verbally. • Listen to what others have to say. • Use verbal analogies, and story telling to demonstrate your point.
Kinesthetic • Kinesthetic learners learn through moving, doing, touching. • STRATEGIES to help you learn: • Take frequent study breaks. • Move around to learn new things (read on an exercise bike, mold a piece of clay, etc.) • Work at a standing position. • Chew gum while studying. • Highlight important info with bright colors while reading. • Listen to music while you study. • Skim through texts to get a rough idea of what it is about before settling down to read it in detail.
