Goals of MIMCom • First phase • Setting up the network based on the needs as defined by researchers • Second phase • Supporting research agendas • Africanizing MIMCom leadership
MIMCom: Phase 1 • Enhanced connectivity to the Internet and medical literature • Comprised 19 research sites in 13 countries • Supported by a consortium of over 30 local and international partners.
MIMCom: Phase 2 • Focused on MIM-TDR grantees • Provided Internet and information access at 5 sites in 3 additional countries • Supported by SIDA • Goal has been to create sustainable access.
MIMCom Program Components • The MIMCom program has included the following:

Evaluation Conclusions • MIMCom is making a significant difference in the professional performance of individual researchers • Collaborations with colleagues • Short courses • Proposals written and funded • Papers written and published • Clinical trials • E-mail access • Counteracting isolation & self-esteem issues • Africa-to-Africa connection needs strengthening
Work begun as part of MIMCom has now been incorporated into NLM's international programs
MIMCom News • Weekly publication for malaria researchers reaching over 1500 subscribers around the world • MIMCom News has been recently spun off and is now run privately by Inga Van Schayk as Malaria World
