A Sampling of Simulation Tools • GEANT4 is a commonly used set of tools that simulates the transport ofparticles through matter. • Used in high energy, nuclear astro-physics and medical applications • Long history of providing a coherent set of simulation tools • GEANT4 is an international collaboration centered at CERN • FNAL recently joined GEANT4 as collaborators • Technical performance in robustness and timing • Hadronic Shower Model Development and Validation • Includes documenting existing studies • GEANT4 is used at FNAL for the CMS detector simulation, ILC simulations, particle astro-physics and the neutrino program. • MARS simulation, authored and supported at FNAL in the Accelerator division • In wide use for studying beam related backgrounds, shielding studies
ILC Detector Simulations • Targeting advanced conceptual designs for the ILC detectors around 2010 • Credible simulation chains are vital for characterizing and optimizing detector designs. • ILC community using tools for sharing generator level files; sharing conditions information; geometry databases • Common format (LCIO) enables studies across detector concepts and test beam data. • FNAL has increased contributions to ILC detector simulations in the past six months. • Local effort is concentrated on one detector concept:SiD • Physics benchmarks • SiD tracking simulation development • Providing some local community support for org.LCSIM

Infrastructure and Support • Active Detector Simulation efforts across FNAL Particle Physics Division, Accelerator Division and FNAL Computing Division requires infrastructure and support. • ILC • Code distributions for SLIC/org.LCSIM and 4th concept are available • Contributing to documentation for org.LCSIM • Geant4 • Contributions to CMS simulation • User support of LHC Physics Center • Some general support at best effort levels • Pythia • General support • Data/MC tuning studies • FNAL Computing and Storage resources • Intend to host CALICE test beam set • FNAL resources available for the local community • Patriot project provides generator samples for common use for RunII/LHC. • Access to FNAL computing resources (FermiGrid) through Open Science Grid
Summary • FNAL has expertise in all areas of detector simulation chains from the generator level to analysis • Contributions to physics, technical areas, and facilities • We welcome exploring possible areas of collaboration
