  2. Origin • 2008 City Council goal to retain staff during the “great recession” • Employee committee formed to develop suggestions • Keep morale up in a time of no raises and downsizing • No impact on the City’s general fund

  3. Events • Organized BY EMPLOYEES FOR EMPLOYEES! • Employees dedicated to improving morale • Volunteer members; not “volun-told” • At least one event per month • Members and departments host events • Casual Day!

  4. Event Ideas • Food always helps! • Recoup costs; any profit goes to MBA • Involve ALL employees • Host events at other facilities • Work with supervisors to encourage attendance

  5. Themed events • Focus on seasons, sporting events, holidays • Competition! • Special guest appearances by city’s personalities • City Management • Mascots • Toot Your Own Horn

  6. Event Examples Holiday Sweater Contest AND Holiday Karaoke! Full support by City Management

  8. Promote worthwhile causes!
