Homework Folder • Assigned Monday-Thursday • Check daily • Sign all papers and send back • Ideal opportunity to communicate any concerns your child may have in subject areas.
Homework PURPOSE(S): • To reinforce skills learned previously during class time • To develop routine, sense of responsibility, & to build self-esteem GOAL(S): • To be completed independently (parents are encouraged to read & clarify directions) • To aid in retention of skills • To build confidence STOP: • If your child is unable to complete individually even when clarification was given-just note it on the homework.
SRI-Scholastic Reading Inventory • The SRI measures independent reading. It is a measure of how well your child comprehends text-no pictures. • It is completed on the computer. Your child is reading silently to themselves and making a choice. • There is no teacher interaction nor does the teacher listen to them or choose the text. • As your child is learning to read, he/she will most likely receive a score of BR or Beginner Readers. BR is a range in level anywhere from Fountas and Pinnell levels A-J all depending where in the BR (0-189) they scored. • The BR is a designation that almost all first grade readers receive. It simply means that they are reading anywhere in the range from level A-J.
