Basic Info on the Black Mamba: • The Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is an elapidsnake. It is the largest venomous snake in Africa and the second largest venomous snake in the world. Only the King Cobra is larger. Adult black mambas have an average length of 2.5 meters (8.2 ft) and a maximum length of 4.5 meters (14 ft).
Adaptation of the Black Mamba: • The black mamba receives its name from the black coloration inside of its mouth, rather than their skin color which is a gray to olive tone. The black mamba is reputed to be the fastest moving snake in the world, and has been claimed to move at up to 20 km/h (12.5 mph).
Habitat where it lives: • They can be found a lot of places in South Africa. It lives in all sorts of habitats but do however have the habit of returning to a particular place to seek shelter. They also live in hollow tree trunks and a lowland forest.
Food Chain of the Black Mamba: • The Black Mamba eats rodents, bats, birds and lizards. It gets eaten by Eagle, Mongoose or any other bigger birds that eats snakes.
Life Cycle of the Black Mamba: • The females lay from 10-25 eggs that hatches late in the summer. There's no kind of parental care and the hatchlings are ready to catch and hunt prey right after they hatched.
Ancestors of the Black Mamba: • They have two kinds of Mamba they are Green Mamba and the Black Mamba. The black is more aggressive than the Green Mamba and is more poisonous than the Green one.
