Sometimes, security guards are dismissed as mere “rent-a-cops” who don’t do much to actually deter crime.
But a recent story out of Jonesboro, GA has demonstrated that this kind of thinking is not accurate.
Armed security guard Joseph Watson pulled his gun on an armed, masked robber trying to enter the store he was protecting.
The robber fired a single shot, one that didn’t hit anyone. Then, he fled.
The robber had already targeted the store on multiple occasions. Nobody had been hurt yet, but that didn’t mean that the store employees and customers would not have been in deadly danger without Watson’s presence and quick thinking.
Don’t let anyone tell you that deciding to pursue a career in security is not a noble choice. It does matter.
The police can’t be everywhere at once, and they can’t always stop crimes. Often, they’re stuck cleaning up after a crime has already happened. As a security guard, you’ll get the chance to prevent crimes from occurring at all.
This is why we have such a passion for the industry, and why we want to help other interested young men and women pursue this career.
