Objectives • Comprehend the Navy’s Core Values. • Comprehend personal and organizational benefits of having strong core values and how that relates to the readiness of the Navy and Marine Corps. • Understand the relationship between Core Values and moral and ethical responsibilities. • Know purpose of Discipline in the military. • Realize importance of personal ethics as a leader. • Comprehend the major principle of the Code of Conduct and how it applies to a leader as a POW. • Comprehend the importance of the Sailor’s creed to officer and enlisted.
Goals of Core Values • Educate the Public. • Reinforce through rewarding positive behavior. • Accountability through leading by example. • Create a climate that enhances esprit de corps, self-esteem, and teamwork.
Honor • Integrity: adherence to a code of values. • Ethics: conforming to standards of conduct. • Honesty: fairness of conduct. • Responsibility: moral or mental.
Courage • Definition: the mental or moral strength to resist opposition, danger, or hardship. • Loyalty. • Patriotism. • Valor.
Commitment • Definition: state of being obligated or emotionally impelled. • Competence. • Teamwork. • Concern for people.
Discipline • Definition: Training that develops self control, character, and efficiency. • Aims to train and control a group to attain a common goal. • Good discipline depends on the right attitude.
Fraternization • Definition: Personal relationships between officers and enlisted personnel and certain relationships between two officers or two enlisted members. • To be avoided and can lead to discipline. • Subject to UCMJ.
