  2. Queen Bee Queen. The bees make a queen by selecting one larva and feeding it “Royal Jelly”. Royal Jelly is a powerful milky substance. The Queen is the only bee with fully developed ovaries. She lays up to 2000 eggs a day and lives from 3 to 5 years.

  3. Worker Bees Worker honey bees are all female. Their jobs consist of gathering pollen, protecting the Queen, and making honey. The bees have a stinger, but the can only sting once. The first 21 days of the new bees life they stay in the hive doing “house work”. Worker bees live for around 6 months in the winter time. But only around 6 weeks in the summer time.

  4. Male bees. • Male Bees have only one job. To mate with the Queen. • After they mate with the Queen they die.

  5. Pollen collecting • Bees collect about 66lbs of pollen per year. • The honey bees use the pollen as food. It is one of the richest foods.

  6. Bees Beeswax Beeswax is used by the Honey Bee to make the honey comb . It is used by humans in drugs, cosmetics, artists materials, furniture polish and candles.

  7. Bee threats • The largest bee threat is mites. There are two different types of mites. Varroa and tracheal. • Disease: Foul Brood and Nosema • CCD: Colony Collapse Disorder

  8. Honey Bees Honey • The Bee’s use their honey for food all year round. • Honey has antibacterial qualities. • If you eat local honey it can fend off allergies.

  9. Bee facts….. A hive may contain up to 80,000 bees and more. The bees can tell if a queen dies by smell, phermones Changing queens will change the personalities of the bees and the bees behavior .
