  1. Syphon • Syphon is a structure constructed at the intersection of two waterways. • Syphon carries the discharge of one waterway under the other. • Usually the smaller waterway’s discharge passes under the large one.

  2. ≥ 0.3 Syphon

  3. Hydraulic Design • Syphon may be constructed of concrete or steel. • The design procedure is similar to the culvert’s design procedure. • It is recommended to reduce the water velocity to 1.1 m/sec to reduce the friction losses which is usually large due to the length of the syphon.

  4. Aqueduct • Aqueduct is a structure constructed at the intersection of two waterways. • aqueduct carries the discharge of one waterway above the other. • Usually the smaller waterway’s discharge passes above the large one.

  5. ≥ 0.3 Aqueduct

  6. Hydraulic Design • Aqueduct may be constructed of concrete or steel. • The design procedure is similar to the culvert’s design procedure. • It is recommended to reduce the water velocity to 1.1 m/sec to reduce the friction losses which is usually large due to the length of the aqueduct.
