  1. Lone Star Middle School Positive Behaviors (PBI Teach Tos)

Class Line Up Goal: • To decrease chaos in the hallways before class • To increase readiness for class Reasons: • Help create a better classroom atmosphere Expected Behaviors: • Stand in a straight line, facing forward • Hands and other body parts to self • Once the bell rings, no talking • Students may enter after all expected behaviors are met.

  3. Locker Use Goals: • To maintain school property • To make effective use of time Reasons: • Decrease time wasted at lockers • Decrease inappropriate hallway behaviors • Increase care taken of school property Expected Behaviors: • Be mindful of people above and below you • Close locker doors quietly • Keep combination private • Pick up any trash coming from locker • Careful stowage of items in locker • Use assigned locker only

Dress Code/Electronics Goal: • To provide a comfortable and effective learning environment for all students Reasons: • Limit distractions as much as possible • Increase learning and focus Expected Behaviors: • Follow all dress code rules outlined in the handbook. • If you are not following dress code, be prepared to change your clothes. • Keep all electronics in your locker during school hours. • If using an electronic device, be prepared for it to be confiscated

Prime Time Goals: • To demonstrate respect • To manage one’s own behavior • To cooperate with others Reasons: • Decrease improper behaviors before and during prime time Expected Behaviors: • Walk in a single file line to the gym and stay with advisory class • Be mindful of other classes using the hallways/stairs • Line up with homeroom on gym floor and wait for signal to sit on bleachers • Listen for advisory teacher’s instructions on where to sit • Sit with homeroom • Keep hands and feet to self • Be respectful of speakers and presenters

Bathrooms Goal: • Manage your time Reasons: • Increase instructional time Expected Behaviors: • Ask to use the restroom during appropriate class times (not when the teacher is in the middle of talking). • Carry the hall pass with you to the restroom. • Walk while you’re in the halls. • Go straight to the bathroom and straight back to class. • Be quick.

Band & Locker Room Drop Off Goal: • To store instruments and clothing safely and securely • To provide a safe and orderly environment Reasons: • To decrease off task behaviors • To increase the security of instruments and clothing • To increase safety • To decrease fear, frustration and chaos Expected Behaviors: • No student shall drop-off instrument or clothing in the Band storage room before 7:25 AM. • Drop off instrument in a timely manner and go straight back outside. • No students will be allowed in the Locker Room before school. • Enter and Exit through Longhorn Alley doors (6th grade line-up area). • Only handle your own personal items.

Transition Times Goal: • To get to destination quickly and safely Reasons: • Decrease time spent getting from one activity to another • Decrease inappropriate behaviors between and during classes Expected Behaviors: •  Be respectful and mindful of classes in session. • Stay on the right side of the hallway while traveling between rooms. • Keep hands and feet to self. • Be respectful of all school property. • Pick up any trash or anything you may drop. • Use the restroom if needed and manage time wisely.

Use of Hallways During Class Time Goal: • Quiet hallways • To get to your destination point(s) quickly Reasons: • Decrease frustration • Increase time on-task • Create a safe and orderly environment Expected Behaviors: • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself • Keep mouths and feet quiet • Students are able to walk at all times, in a single line directly to the appointed destination • Walk on the right-hand side of the hall and stairs • Yield, or wait for other lines on your right • Watch out for classroom doors opening • Be polite and considerate at all times

Office/Nurse/Counselor Goal: • Quiet hallways • Orderly transition from playground/classroom to hallway to playground/classroom • More productive office Reasons: • Decrease anxiety, confusion, frustration and fear • Promote an orderly environment Expected Behaviors: •  Have note (hall pass) or nurse's or counselor’s pass from a staff member to come to the office/nurse/counselor. • If going to counselor, knock quietly on the door and wait patiently to be answered. • At front office or nurse, wait quietly and patiently until somebody can assist you. • When you have finished, return directly to class.

Media Center Goal: • To create a positive learning environment • To provide a quiet, safe area for reading and studying Reasons: • Increase positive interactions and environment • Decrease off-task behaviors • Decrease abuse of books, materials, furniture , games, and computers Expected Behaviors: • Picture ID is required to check out: • Books • Use of Computer • Borrow games, scissors, colored pencils, etc. • No eating or drinking in the Media Center • Walk in the Media Center and use furniture and computers appropriately • One person per chair • Do not sit on arms or back of lounge chairs • Talk quietly at all times in the Media Center • Push in chairs when leaving the Media Center

Entering the Building (Chute) Goal: • To arrive in a safe and calm fashion • To start the day and classes after lunch on a positive note • To make a safe and orderly transition  Reasons: • Decrease frustration and fear • Increase pro-social interactions • Teacher can begin instruction promptly  Expected Behaviors: • Stop playing, pick up balls and supplies and walk toward the assigned line up area when the bell rings. • Line up at the end of the line (boy line/girl line). • Stand in line facing forward. • Hands, feet, and objects to yourself. • Watch for teacher's signal to enter.

Bus Departure Goal: • Provide a safe and orderly environment • Manage one’s self • Cooperate with others • Load and unload bus quickly Reasons: • Confusion is reduced • Accidents are avoided • Bus behavior will improve • Decrease frustration Expected Morning Bus Departure Behavior: • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself • Take everything with you when you exit the bus • Walk directly to sidewalk • Go directly to breakfast or to you designated line up area Expected Afternoon Bus Line-up Behavior: • No students will be released to the bus before 2:34 • Walk on the right side of Lone Star Blvd. and exit out Corral Doors • Stay behind rail at all times and walk to your assigned bus line • Do not sit or swing on rails • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself • Load bus ONLY after being released by outside duty personnel

Morning Line-Up Goal: • Enter the school in an orderly fashion • Set expectations for the school day • Start the day on a positive note Reasons: • Decrease discipline problems occurring before school Expected Behaviors: • Arrive at school on time. • Go to the designated grade level area. • Watch for teacher signal to line up. • Girls and boys line up in separate lines. • All students are quiet and in straight lines. • All students enter the building quietly. • Go directly to expected destination.

  15. Corral Goal: • Quiet, safe and relaxing lunchroom Reasons: • Decrease frustration and accidents; increase positive interactions. Expected Behaviors: • Walk to lunch, and walk while you’re in the corral. • Stand in a single file line to get your lunch. • If you do not have your ID card, you wait on the brick wall by the gym until the rest of the students go through the line. • Talk using an inside voice while you’re in the corral. • After you finish eating, go outside. • Pick up trash and leave your area clean when you leave.

Fire Drill Goal: • Make the fire drill process efficient, safe and orderly • Prepare students for proper behavior in case of a real emergency Reasons: • Decrease amount of exit time and reach the designated spot safely • Decrease confusion and panic Expected Behaviors: • When alarm sounds, all students immediately stop everything and get in a single file line with no talking. • All students will exit through the designated exit in a single file line. (Teacher is responsible for grabbing Crisis Manual) • With no talking, the students will go with the teacher to the designated outside area for each advisory class. • With no talking, all students will stand in their line until given a signal to return to the building • When the signal to return is given, the students will walk quietly back to their advisory classroom (no matter what period the drill was in) • Once in the classroom, the students will sit quietly in their seats until the drill is declared over by the teacher or principal. They will then go back to the regular period class.

Lockdown Goal: • Make the lockdown process efficient, safe and orderly • Prepare students for proper behavior in case of a real emergency Reasons: • Decrease amount of movement and reach the designated spot safely • Decrease confusion and panic Expected Behaviors: • When announcement is heard over the loudspeaker, all students immediately stop everything and look at their teacher. • All students will follow directions given to them by the adult present. • Teachers will ensure that lights are turned off, windows are shut, and doors are locked. • With no talking, the students will listen to the teacher and move to the designated area for each class. • When the signal that all is well is given, the students will move quietly back to their appropriate location. • Once in the classroom, the students will sit quietly in their seats until the drill is declared over by the teacher or principal.

  19. 4 R’s Poster Materials: Poster board 4 – letter Rs 4 bundles-one bundle for each R containing a group of sentences describing behaviors or actions for each Cut out green, white, black stars, and long horn Scissors Glue Directions: Create a poster using each of the 4 Rs: Respect Responsibility Relationships Readiness There are some sentences bundled together for each word. In groups of 4 or 5 decide which two or three best sentences best describe behaviors that go with that word. Create a poster with the materials, 4 words, and 2 to 3 sentences for each. Decorate the poster with the other materials.

Responsibility • Do only what you are asked to do. • Be disciplined-show self control. • Think before you act-consider the consequences. • Be accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes. • Be the good example for others. • Be trustworthy to others and make yourself accountable. Relationships • Be courteous and kind to others. • Emulate those who are hard working and caring. • Communicate with understanding and compassion. • Good communication is the key to a good relationship. • Listen more and speak less. • Evaluate others by what they do, not what they say, and then act.
