  25. What Does A Real Disciple Look Like Pastor Groover

  26. CIRCLES OF COMMITMENT

  27. On the outside you have the ________. They express an interest in Jesus, but seldom ever worship with other believers. The mob following Jesus knew who He was, but they would soon be gone. crowd

  28. 2. A deeper level of commitment is the _______________. These are people who attend church on a fairly regular basis. congregation

  29. 3. A deeper level of commitment is the ________. This circle represents those who have affiliated with a local church and have a deeper level of intimacy with Christ and His body. church

  30. 4.There is a level deeper than that which we could call the _____________. These are the ones within the church who are real disciples–they are radical Christians–sold out to Jesus. committed

  31. 5. In Antioch like most churches about 20% of the people do 80% of the work and give 80% of the financial support of the church. That’s the committed _____. core

  32. Which circle represents where you are today? Where would you like to be?

  33. The job of a disciple is to become part of the committed core and then move out into the crowd to make more disciples.

  34. JESUS SHARES 5 IMAGES OF A REAL DISCIPLE IN THIS PASSAGE.

  35. A FAMILY: LOVE JESUS _______________. Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:25-26 (ESV) SUPREMELY

  36. To be a disciple, you must love Jesus more than you love anyone else–even family members.

  37. II. A CROSS: LIVE LIKE A ______ PERSON. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:27 (ESV) The true message of the cross is death. DEAD

  38. III. A TOWER: CONSIDER THE _____________________________ For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Luke 14:28-30 (ESV) A good finish as a disciple is the key. VALUE OF A GOOD FINISH

  39. SURRENDER IV. A WAR: _______________ TO THE STRONGER KING Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:31-33 (ESV) You cannot be a disciple unless you are willing to give up control of your life to Jesus.

  40. PURE V. SALT: STAY ________ TO PRESERVE GOODNESS “Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Luke 14:34-35 (ESV) Like salt, we must come in contact with our corrupting culture to slow down the process of decay. As salt, our job is to preserve the goodness that still exists in our culture

  41. CONCLUSION Are you a real disciple? Do you want to move from being in the congregation into the church? Do you need to move from the church into the core of committed disciples? Do you love Jesus more than anyone else, even your family?

  42. Are you a dead man walking, carrying your cross? Are you committed to finishing strong for Jesus? Are you constantly surrendering everything you have to Him? Are you willing to stay pure so you can be salt in a rotting world?

  43. Jesus is looking for a few good men and women: the humble, the pure, the dead, the committed. Will you decide today to move from being a mere believer and make being a fully devoted follower of Jesus, your goal?

  44. “The Savior Is Waiting” The Savior is waiting to enter your heart, Why don’t you let Him come in? There’s nothing in this world to keep you apart, What is your answer to Him?

  45. “The Savior Is Waiting” Time after time He has waited before, And now He is waiting again To see if you’re willing to open the door: Oh how He wants to come in.

  46. “The Savior Is Waiting” If you’ll take one step toward the Savior, my friend, You’ll find His arms open wide; Receive Him, and all of your darkness will end, Within your heart He’ll abide.

  47. “The Savior Is Waiting” Time after time He has waited before, And now He is waiting again To see if you’re willing to open the door: Oh how He wants to come in.

  48. Benediction
