Why use air? • It’s all around us • Air never runs out • Air is non-polluting • Air is free or sometimes is $2
How does it work? • Energy has to be stored by squeezing the air tightly to use a mechanical air compressor • Once it is compressed, the air is released and it expands • The air expanding is used
How to charge or refill • Tank holds 3,200 cubic feet (90.6 kiloliters) of compressed air • Plug in air compressor in garage or other areas • Gas stations will be Air stations • Only takes 3 minutes
How the air is used • Vehicles accelerator operates a valve on its tank and allows air to be released into the engine • The air expands and pushes against the pistons & turns the crankshaft • Produces enough power for the speed of 35 MPH • Then it kicks the engine into power giving it more speed and the air moves faster
Disadvantages • The air compressor will run on gasoline • Distance- refilling stations don’t have air compressors; but over time they might • extremely dangerous; scientist are figuring out ways for the compressors to crack rather than shatter
