  1. Workshop on “Mathematical Engineering” Dr. Vathsal, Director ER&IPR, Room No. 348, DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi- 110011 Venue: ECE Dept, IISc Bangalore Date: 09/06/07

  2. Advanced Research in Mathematical Engineering with FOCI in • Communication • Control • Signal Processing Aim To achieve and maintain Electro magnetic dominance in theaters such as J&K.

  3. Through Jan 27, 2001 Chaired by Dr. V.K. Aatre (Ex) SA to RM, DRDO Hqr Department of Electrical communication Engineering with – Ambit of Scientific Discourse and Transactional Arrangements Definition Meeting

  4. Labs Invited • ADE - Dr. Jharna Majumdar • CAIR - Sh. N Sitaram + 6 Scientists (Sh. G Adithan, Dr. Giris S Deodare, TS Raghavan, MR Kishorey, Dr. Vijay V Patel, Dr. N Ramamoorthy) • DLRL • DARE (ASIEO) • LASTEC • LRDE • NPOL – Sh. V Chander • MTRDC • RCI - Sh KVSS Prasad Rao • SAG – Prof. CE Veni Madhavan

  5. Transcational Arrangements • Creation & Sustenance of Intellectual and research infrastructure • Performance of imagination-driver generic basic research aimed at expanding and deepening the relevant knowledge base. funding for (a) and (b) will be through ER at DRDO HQrs) • Utilization of both (a) and (b) above by acquiring research services through CARS-a new transcational instrument planned for use from April 01, 2001.

  6. Topics Suggested By NPOL. Signal & Noise Modeling • Enabling optimal / sub optimal design of systems • Furnishing the type of information that can be extracted from the system • Facilitating an effective evaluation of the system performance in diverse situation.

  7. CFAR Processing • Cell Averaging CFAR processing and its Variants ( like cell average grater of – CAGO, Cell average smaller of–CASO, Rank Cursor –RC and order statistics –OS • Distribution free CFAR Processing and • Adaptive filters

  8. Adaptive Array Processing • Statistical modeling of sensor signal characteristics, when flexible sensor array is towed through fluid medium, as a function of towing speed and sea conditions. • Analytical methods to predict the performance degradation of various adaptive beam formers with a correlated displacement from sensor to sensor. • Influence of various spatio- temporal ambient noise conditions • Develop adaptive beam formers which are robust to array imperfections.

  9. Data Fusion • Fusion of data to refine measurements like bearing, range spectral characteristics. • Fusion of decision of individual processor attached to a given sensor. • CABS • Space Time Adaptive Processing for Airborne Radars and Anti- Jamming GPS.

  10. LRDE LRDE • Space – time adaptive signal processing techniques for Radar • Wavelet based techniques for Radar clutter models. • Application of Neural Networks for modelling and tracking • Detection of multiple targets from multiple radar sensors. • Parametric / Non-parametric estimation for stochastic processors useful in radars. • CFAR Techniques for radar.

  11. MTRDC • Synthesis Techniques for Electron beams / guns. • Particle – in – cell / (PIC) Modelling of Microwave tubes. • Optimization of Microwave tube design

  12. DARE (ASIEO) Problem of modeling a fully coherent Multi Mode Radar (MMR) and associated Air to Air Missile. Model would include detection of a fighter aircraft target, acquisition logic and tracking (in range, azimuth, elevation & Doppler). It would also contain a missile launch, gathering and guidance model. Missile miss distance will be used as a final parameter to assess the performance of the radar guided weapon system.

  13. MOC Milestones & Achievements Start of MOC - 20 June 2001 Cost of MoC - Rs 222.5 Lakhs PGG & RPIG • Guided by PGG – 5 • Implemented by RPIG - 5 Proposal for conditional program • May 19, 2006 • Updated June 7, 2006

  14. Achievements • Journal papers – 34 • Conference papers – 99 • Technical papers – 72 • Visit of leading scientists from abroad – 33 • Seminars – 38 • Instructional Workshops • Estimation & Control • Wireless Technologies • Wavelet Transforms. • Patents - 2

  15. New MoC Previous I MoC – Aug 23, 2002 New II MoC – 1/9/06 – Aug 31, 2011 No cost to DRDO – extension of one year at the end of the 5 year period. Advisor Professor V.K. Aatre Visiting professor, IISc

  16. Expansion of Activities • Supporting a larger number of faculty • Expanding and improving the distinguished visitor program • Setting up a server dedicated to maintenance of a website • Encouraging and facilitating the delivery of seminars & short courses by visiting faculty and/ or IISc faculty either outsite at a DRDO Laboratory or else at IISc itself. • Seminars at IISc will be made open to students of local institutions.

  17. Improvement in the area of Interaction • Annual one day review • Providing workstation & desk space in the DRDO-IISc facility for day visitors to IISc from DRDO Laboratories.

  18. Meeting for Renewal / New MoC • Shri N. Sitaram, Chairman, Director CAIR. • Dr. S Vathsal,Member Secretary, Director ER&IPR . • Air Cmde Katarki, Member (CABS • Dr. Sudhir Kamath, Member (MTRDC), Sc ‘F’. • Dr. N Rama Murthy, Co-opted , Member (CAIR), Sc‘F’ The committee met on 04 Jan 2006 in CAIR. After looking into achievements & plan for new MOC, it was decided to continue maintaining such a program. MOC was signed on 29th Aug 2006. RPIG has been conducted.
