Separating metals from ores • Ores are rocks that include metals combined with other substances • People may use chemical properties to separate metals from their ores, like heating iron with solid carbon
Identifying Substances • Scientists use physical properties to identify substances • Chemical properties are used to identify acids or bases • Weaker or stronger acids and bases leave different colors • Universal indicator paper and flame tests are used to identify acids and bases
