The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has been designated, by the Governor via the Secretary, through the Office of Transportation Delivery to administer, oversee and monitor Federal Transit grants including the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements as it relates to public transit programs.   Office of transportation delivery

  3. The transit DBE projects are separate from the highway goals and approved by USDOT/Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Civil Rights. The Office of Transportation Delivery secured various FTA public transit capital grants used to finance the construction of transit facilities and garages.  Office of transportation delivery

Currently, $20,829,718 in Federal grants were procured to renovate, construct or purchase multi-modal transit facilities in: Elizabethtown, Lexington, Hopkinsville, Hyden, West Liberty, Fulton, Owensboro, Murray, and Hindman, Kentucky. Much of these facilities entail the renovation or purchase of existing unused buildings in their communities. Fta grants

The facility in Hindman Kentucky is part of a $5 million Livability Initiative Bus Grant that will help Revitalize Hindman and Knott County.  $1,007,200 was awarded to the Murray Calloway Transit Authority and the City of Murray to integrate Sidewalks And Bike Paths throughout the City linking together bus Stops and giving healthier options for personal mobility.  livability initiative bus grants

  6. Two (2) grants in the amount of $1,655,927 in capital funds were procured to enhance our one-stop, one-call center and help improve the lives of Kentucky’s military and veterans and their families. Veterans transportation and Community Living Grants

KYTC Office of Transportation Delivery encouraged the purchase of alternative fueled vehicles, the use of green house practices in building construction projects, and the addition of solar panels to bus shelters. Bike racks are being added to transit buses to encourage bicycling and keep more vehicles off the road. During FY 2010-2012 the grant in Murray will be used to improve and Expand sidewalks and bikeways will encourage a healthier, cleaner mode of mobility. Going “green”

The parking facility construction in Hindman will be constructed using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and will have an energy star rating.  Recycled materials will be used when applicable to the design and solar panels will be installed for energy conservation.    The project will include room for bus parking, rider parking, and a waiting room for riders.  Connections will be made at this facility for other routes, including intercity connections.  The parking facility will have a walkway (outdoor walking track) around its perimeter with the dual purpose of connecting to the transit facility and/or to the city sidewalks and giving transit staff and citizens a place to walk for health.  Going “green” (cont.)
