How many hours should I complete each year? A minimum of: • 10 hours in grade 6 • 10 hours in grade 7 • 20 hours in grade 8 Requirement for receiving an Ada Merritt IB MYP Certificate in 8th grade
Where can I complete C&S Hours? • In school: • Mentoring and Teacher Assist as an FFEA club member • Assist with various school events (Festa Junina, Food Festival Health Fair, etc.) • Participate in school sponsored activities (food drives, donations, etc) • Look for information on the C&S bulletin board and on the school website for suggested activities and for sign up sheets • Outside of school, under parental supervision: • Local events, races, donation, walks, environmental actions, etc. • Activity must be pre-approved by the C&S Area Leader, Ms. Fletcher or Ms. Clark. Keep track of your hours and submit your Record Forms to your C& S Area Leader • The organization should be a non-profit group that services the broader community • Activities that are advertised on the C&S Bulletin Board are already pre-approved. Simply obtain a verification of your participation and submit your Record Forms to your C& S Area Leader
How do I get credit for C&S Hours? • You must submit a C&S Activity Record Form for all activities, in school or outside. • You only need one C&S Activity Record Form for same activities that are repeated • Download a C&S Activity Record Form from the website • Complete it as required • Submit it to Ms. Fletcher or Ms. Clark • Keep track of your own hours by making a quick entry in your agenda.
Community and Service Do’s and Don’ts • Do’s • Seek as many activities as possible to be of service to your school, local community and the world • Complete one Community and Service Activity Record Form for each activity and clearly indicate: • Date & Hours • Authorized signature & Supervisor’s phone number • Keep track of your volunteering hours in your student agenda • Submit your Record Forms to your C& S Area Leader in order to receive credit for the hours.
Community and Service Do’s and Don’ts • Don’ts The following activities WILL NOT be accepted as Community or Service Activities: • Baby sitting, walking pets, mowing the lawn, and general chores for your family • Going to work with parents, relatives or friends is a great career shadowing experience, but not Community or Service • Parents may not sign/authorize C&S activities • Don’t ask how many hours you have. Keep track of the hours you serve in your agenda. • Don’t wait till the last minute: no form will be accepted after the deadline: May 16, 2014.
