  1. FA HUM 01Concept • Conduct a hemispheric executive level seminar which will contribute to disaster preparedness and foster regional cooperation in prevention and response.

Goals and Objectives FA HUM 01 • Identify the mechanism for coordination with national and regional organizations for the support of participating nations in humanitarian aid missions during disasters. • Review and discuss the Regional Disaster Preparedness initiatives in the hemisphere. • Strengthen cooperation between the national and regional organizations responsible for disaster prevention and response.

  3. Goals and Objectives FA HUM 01 • Support the roles and missions of the participating countries in disaster rescue operations through national and regional agencies. • Foster relations between national and regional organizations for humanitarian assistance during disasters.

  4. Seminar Concept • Disaster Preparedness • Regional Cooperation • Regional Collaboration • Self-Sufficiency • Morning presentations and panels; afternoon workshops

  5. FA-HUM 99 “Eleven Points” • FA-HUM 00 Conference held in Dominican Republic Feb 00 • Promise by Center for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CDMHA) to partner with USSOUTHCOM in the conduct of FA-HUM 00 • Commitment by CDMHA and their Universities to vigorously pursue large corporations to become involved in disaster assistance (example, provide free cargo space to deliver relief supplies) • SOUTHCOM will provide Medical and Damage Assessment Liaison Officers to PAHO and OFDA • Commitment by OFDA and other agencies to conduct Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training

FA-HUM 99 “Eleven Points” • Commitment by countries to conduct internal disaster relief training • Commitment by countries to develop/improve early warning systems • Commitment to develop plans and improve the process for damage assessment and distribution of relief supplies • Commitment by OFDA to provide a report to Central American countries on how the OFDA donated supplies that were utilized • Commitment made by the Dominican Republic to host FA-HUM 00 • Commitment made by the UN (OCHA) to improve response in this region and participate in a SOUTHCOM hosted senior level disaster relief seminar
