  1. Summer camp Exposure#BigGrades #BigPlays#RECRUITCedarpark

  2. Recruiting • It is a business • Don’t take anything personal. • We don’t set market. • We can only get coaches here, get kids in front of coaches. • Team success doesn’t equate to individual success • Allen, highland park, aledo

  3. Summer Camps • Allows coaches to work with kids they're potentially recruiting. • Don’t just show up and expect to be remembered • Never be just a ”shoe fund donation”

  4. Summer Camps • Why are you going? • To get a scholarship? To be taught/coached up by a college coach/staff

  5. What’s your plan? • Is it a good fit for you? • If coaches don’t know you’re coming, you’re wasting your time and money. • Make sure they’re still recruiting your position in your class. • Be realistic about your ability • Check roster, compare your size to others at your position.

  6. What’s your plan? • If they don’t have your position, don’t go! • Check rivals & 24/7 websites to see who’s gotten offers from schools/who’s committed.

  7. What’s your plan? • Can’t go to 9-10 camps and be successful . • Pick 4-5 camps, maybe 6 at most. • Try to spread them out so don’t wear yourself out • If a coach has asked you personally to attend a camp, or told your coach to have you attend, need to try and be there. • Beware of basic/generic emails and letters sent to you/your child.

  8. What’s your plan?

  9. Choosing a Camp • Best ones to attend are camps hosted on their campus. • Go to a smaller camp over a mega camp • There is d2 & d3 camps

  10. Choosing a Camp • Mega camps • Stay away • The idea of 30+ schools at a camp sounds great & promising • Have to know what coaches are going to show for each position • Sometimes schools just won’t show up at all • If you’re going t0 do a mega camp, be selective • One of the best ones is etbu • It’s easier to shine over 70 kids than it is over 700 kids

  11. Before going to camp • Communicate! Communicate! Communicate! • Let us know. Let us know day before you go if not earlier • Don’t be afraid to let college coach know you’re going as well. • If you text, text. If you dm, dm. if you call, call. • Use social media to your advantage

  12. Camp day • Stand out as much as you can • Athletically is great. • Stand out with what you wear. Bright colors. Neon colors. Bandanas, hats, unique cleats. • Especially if you’re average size/speed. • Get there early. Give yourself time to stretch on your own/properly. Don’t be rushed.

  13. Camp day • Are you there to be taught or earn a scholarship? • It’s a business trip. You’re not there to make friends, to joke around. • Need to be focused • Trying to earn a scholarship. Business mentality. • If your position coach/area recruiting coach does not know you’re there. Introduce yourself • Do this before camp starts. • Make quick dialogue with them, they need to know your name/school.

  14. Camp day • Strategically place yourself in line. • Should always be 4th - 5th • GO AGAINST BEST DB/WR. IF YOU’RE A QB, FIND THE BEST WR. • BE COACHABLE • SOME COACHES WIL TALK DOWN/YELL AT YOU. WANT TO SEE HOW YOU HANDLE IT.

  15. Camp day • MAKE CONVERSATION/DIALOGUE WITH YOUR POSITION COACH ALL DAY TO HELP HIM REMEMBER YOU. • ASK QUESTIONS (WHAT TYPE OF COVERAGE ARE YOU GOING TO SEE, WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR ON READS, ETC. • ASK COACHES FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT. • Know you’re going to get beat. • Maintain a positive attitude.

  16. Camp day • Parents if you’re talking to coaches, be brief. • Introduce yourself, mention your child’s name, school, be done • Coaches time is precious. • You’ll know if a coach is trying to go..

  17. After camp • Thank the coach for the opportunity after. • Ask him for a business card, 99.9% of them have one on them. • ask for twitter. Follow them right there if you’re not already. • Have them take their phone out, and ask if they got it. • Do not ask if you’re a scholarship guy. • Check back in within a couple of days.

  18. Maximize opportunity • Have a parent, a friend, girlfriend, teammate film your 1 on 1 reps. Send them to me after your camp. • I will put together a quick highlight of your best plays that day and send it to coaches/tweet it out.

  19. Contact • Cesar Rosales • Cesar_rosales@leanderisd.org • 512-738-5484 • @coach_ro2
