Mulit-step Break Forming MSC.Marc 2005r2 MSC.Patran 2005r2 Estimated Time for Completion: 5 minutes Experience Level: Higher
Topics Covered • Creating 2D solid elements using Plane Strain • Creating Rigid and Deformable contacts • Activating and deactivating the contact bodies • Creating Elastic-Plastic material properties • Creating Material properties using a table • Applying Multi-step analysis
Problem Description • A flat sheet is formed into an angled bracket by punching it through a hole in a table using the contact option. The punch is then removed and another process deforms the sheet even more. This demo is to illustrate multi-step forming. Note the following when looking at this example: • 1. All contact bodies are placed in all load cases, • 2. Motion of rigid bodies is controlled (stopped or reversed) by scaling the rigid body in the load case, • 3. contact tables are used in each step to activate or deactivate a body, • 4. All rigid bodies have null initial motion. To stop the motion of a body in one step, it is scaled by zero in the load case and then removed via the contact body in the next step. • This is one way to do multi-stage forming. It can also be done by defining time dependent fields to control and synchronize the motion of the rigid bodies with the contact table activation and deactivation in each load step..
