  2. The Appointed Times of Yahuwah Investigating the Meaning of the Appointments of Yah and Their Relevance in Messiah

  3. Leviticus 23:1-4 New American Standard The LORD spoke again to Moses, saying, 2 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD'S appointed times which you shall proclaim as holy convocations-- My appointed times are these: 3 'For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work; it is a sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings. 4 'These are the appointed times of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them.

  4. The Important Vocabulary of Leviticus 23 Moed – Appointment, appointed time Qara - Proclaim MiqraQodesh – Holy Convocation Shabbaton – a Complete Rest Chag – Pilgrimage, (Feast)

  5. The Important Vocabulary of Leviticus 23 • The Hebrew/Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament defines our word as follows: • explanation, reading; basic meaning: calling • 1. a) summons:  b) assembly • 2. reading, recitation • "Miqra" comes from the root qara' which means to "call, call upon, proclaim, read."  Thus, 'miqra' means "reading" or "proclamation."  So, these days which are named in Vayiqra 23 are to be times when the message of Scripture is "proclaimed" by the "reading" of the Scriptures. • In modern Hebrew, miqra is the common equivalent to the English "Scriptures" and it is used in roughly the same way that English speaking people would use the word Bible.  But, as we have just seen, miqra can have meanings other than "scripture."  In the Scriptures, miqra means proclamation, reading or the assembly (for the sake of proclamation of the scriptures).

  6. The Three Pilgrimage Feasts (Chaggim) Pilgrimage (Feast) of Unleavened Bread Pilgrimage (Feast) of Pentecost Pilgrimage (Feast) of Tabernacles

  7. Three times a year all your men must appear before Yahuwah your Elohim at the place he will choose: at the Pilgrimage Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Pilgrimage Feast of Weeks and the Pilgrimage Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before Yahuwah empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way Yahuwah your Elohim has blessed you.(Deut 16:16-17)

  8. Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.  Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of Yahuwah your Elohim at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere Yahuwah your Elohim always.  Deut 14:22-23

  9. But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by Yahuwah your Elohim and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where Yahuwah will choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place Yahuwah your Elohim will choose.  (Deut 14:24-25)

  10. Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of Yahuwah your Elohim and rejoice.  And do not neglect the Lewites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own. (Deut 14:26-27)

  11. The Seven Annual Holy Days 15thday of 1stmonth miqraqodesh 21st day of 1st month miqraqodesh 50th day of counting miqraqodesh 1stday of 7thmonth miqraqodesh 10thday of 7thmonth miqraqodesh 15thday of 7thmonth miqraqodesh 22nd day of 7th month miqraqodesh

  12. Leviticus 23:5-8 NAS – Passover & Unleavened Bread 5 'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the LORD'S Passover. 6 'Then on the fifteenth day of the same month there is the Feast (chag-pilgrimage) of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. 7 'On the first day you shall have a holy convocation (miqraqodesh); you shall not do any laborious work. 8 'But for seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the seventh day is a holy convocation (miqraqodesh); you shall not do any laborious work.'"

  13. Exodus 12 Passover • Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, • 2 "This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. • 3 "Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers' households, a lamb for each household. • 4 'Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.

  14. Exodus 12 Passover • 5 'Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. • 6 'You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight. • 7 'Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. • 8 'They shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

  15. Exodus 12 Passover • 9 'Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with its entrails. • 10 'And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire. • 11 'Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste-- it is the LORD'S Passover. • 12 'For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments-- I am the LORD.

  16. Exodus 12 Passover • 13 'The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. • 14 'Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance. • 15 'Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.

  17. Exodus 12 Passover • 16 'On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you. • 17 'You shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance. • 18 'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.

  18. Exodus 12 Passover • 19 'Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land. • 20 'You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.'" • 21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb.

  19. Why Unleavened Bread? During the night Pharaoh summoned Mosheh and Aharon and said, "Up! Leave my people, you and the sons of Yisrael! Go, worship Yahuwah as you have requested.  Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me."  The Mitzrites urged the people to hurry and leave the country. "For otherwise," they said, "we will all die!"  So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing.  (Shemot 12:31-37)

  20. The Exodus The sons of Yisrael did as Mosheh instructed and asked the Mitzrites for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.  Yahuwah had made the Mitzrites favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Mitzrites.  The sons of Yisrael journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. (Shemot 12:31-37)

  21. Relevance of Passover in Messiah • 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! • 30 "This is He on behalf of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.' • 31 "I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water." • 32 John testified saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. • 33 "I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, 'He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' • 34 "I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God." • 35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, • 36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!“ (4th Gospel 1:29-36 NAS)

  22. Relevance of Passover in Messiah • 13 Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. • 14 Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!" • 15 So they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar." • 16 So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified. • 17 They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. • 18 There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. (4th Gospel 19 NAS)

  23. Relevance of Unleavened Bread in Messiah • 6 And Jesus said to them, "Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." • 7 They began to discuss this among themselves, saying, "He said that because we did not bring any bread." • 8 But Jesus, aware of this, said, "You men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread? • 9 "Do you not yet understand or remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up? • 10 "Or the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many large baskets full you picked up? • 11 "How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." • 12 Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. (Matthew 16 NAS)

  24. Relevance of Unleavened Bread in Messiah • 6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? • 7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. • 8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. • 9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; • 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. • 11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler-- not even to eat with such a one. • 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? • 13 But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES. (1 Corinthians 5, NAS)

  27. The Appointed Times of Yahuwah Pt 2 Investigating the Meaning of the Appointments of Yah and Their Relevance in Messiah

  28. Hebrew Word Review Miqra = Gathering, Assembly (on holy days) Yahuwah, Yah = the LORD, our Father in heaven, also pronounced Yahweh, Yehovah Elohim, El = God, literally, Mighty One Yahusha = Jesus, the Hebrew name of Messiah, also called Yahusha Kadash, Kodesh, Kadosh = holy, set apart

  29. The Important Vocabulary of Leviticus 23 Moed – Appointment, appointed time Qara – Proclaim, call, read MiqraQodesh – Holy Convocation Shabbaton (Shabbat Shabbaton)– a Complete Rest Chag – Pilgrimage, (Feast)

  30. Quick Review Pesach – the unblemished Lamb gives its life for the firstborn of Israel Unleavened – The redemption prompts us to clean up. No more sin, no more man made doctrines and traditions, no more toleration in the assembly of the unrepentant rebellious

  31. Leviticus 23:9-11 NAS – Wave Offering 9 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 10 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When you enter the land which I am going to give to you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring in the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest. 11 'He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD for you to be accepted; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

  32. What Day is the Wave Offering? 11'He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD for you to be accepted; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. This is the first day of the week and must occur during the seven day period.

  33. Leviticus 23:12-14 NAS – First Fruits 12 'Now on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb one year old without defect for a burnt offering to the LORD. 13 'Its grain offering shall then be two-tenths of an ephahof fine flour mixed with oil, an offering by fire to the LORD for a soothing aroma, with its drink offering, a fourth of a hin of wine. 14 'Until this same day, until you have brought in the offering of your God, you shall eat neither bread nor roasted grain nor new growth. It is to be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwelling places.

  34. Why is So Much Said About these Wave Offerings of First Fruits? Three times a year all your men must appear before Yahuwah your Elohim at the place he will choose: at the Pilgrimage Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Pilgrimage Feast of Weeks and the Pilgrimage Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before Yahuwah empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way Yahuwah your Elohim has blessed you.(Deut 16:16-17)

  35. How Wave Offerings are Relevant in Messiah 20 But Messiah has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Messiah all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own turn: Messiah, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. (1 Corinthians 15)

  36. Leviticus 23:15-17 NAS – Counting and First Fruits 15 'You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete sabbaths. 16'You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh sabbath; then you shall present a new grain offering to the LORD. 17 'You shall bring in from your dwelling places two loaves of bread for a wave offering, made of two-tenths of an ephah; they shall be of a fine flour, baked with leaven as first fruits to the LORD.

  37. Leviticus 23:18-20 NAS – Pentecost Wave Offering 18 'Along with the bread you shall present seven one year old male lambs without defect, and a bull of the herd and two rams; they are to be a burnt offering to the LORD, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD. 19 'You shall also offer one male goat for a sin offering and two male lambs one year old for a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20 'The priest shall then wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave offering with two lambs before the LORD; they are to be holy to the LORD for the priest.

  38. Leviticus 23:21-22 NAS – (Shavuot/Pentecost) 21 'On this same day you shall make a proclamation as well; you are to have a holy convocation (miqraqodesh). You shall do no laborious work. It is to be a perpetual statute in all your dwelling places throughout your generations. 22 'When you reap the harvest of your land, moreover, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field nor gather the gleaning of your harvest; you are to leave them for the needy and the alien. I am the LORD your God.'"

  39. What Happened at Shavuot? Exodus 19 16 So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. 19 When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder.

  40. Relevance of Shavuot in Messiah – Acts 2 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

  41. The Two Pentecosts (Hebrew, Shavuot) At Mt Sinai – Father came down and met with the people. The Ten Words were spoken by God to the nation of Israel At Jerusalem – The Holy Spirit came down and empowered those worshipping These two visitations by Yahuwah were to ratify a covenant agreement between Him and his people

  42. Why Was the Holy Spirit Given? 24 "'For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your Elohim. (Ezekiel 36)

  43. Fall Moadim

  44. Leviticus 23:23-25 NAS – Blowing of Trumpets 23 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation (miqraqodesh). 25 'You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD.'"

  45. h['WrT. (teruah) alarm, signal, sound of tempest. A number of different shades of meaning and a variety of senses are developed for the root in various OT passages. The primary meaning is "to raise a noise" by shouting or with an instrument, especially a horn (Num 10:7) or the traditional ram's horn, the "shofar" (Josh 6:5). - shout or blast of war, alarm, or joy;

  46. Now I will triumph over my enemies who surround me! I will offer sacrifices in his dwelling place and shout (Heb "teruah") for joy! I will sing praises to Yahuwah! (Ps 27:6). Blessed are the people who know the shout (Heb "teruah") of Yahuwah.  In the light of your face they walk (Ps 89:16).

  47. What is to be remembered by the blowing of trumpets? And on the third day in the morning there was thunder and lightning and a dense cloud on the mountain, and the sound of a very loud horn; all the people who were in the camp trembled.  And Mosheh brought the people out of the camp to meet Elohim, and they took their place at the lower end of the mountain.  Now Mount Sinai was completely covered with smoke because Yahuwah had descended on it in fire; and its smoke went up like the smoke of a great furnace, and the whole mountain shook greatly.  When the sound of the horn grew louder and louder, Mosheh was speaking and Elohim was answering him with a voice.  And Yahuwah came down on Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain… (Shemot 19:16-20). David M Rogers www.BibleTruth.cc

  48. How Awesome Was that Event? For you have not drawn near to a mountain touched and scorched with fire, and to blackness, and darkness and storm, and a sound of a trumpet, and a voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that no further Word should be spoken to them, for they could not bear what was commanded, "If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot through with an arrow." And so fearsome was the sight that Mosheh said, "I exceedingly fear and tremble" (Hebrews 12:18-21). David M Rogers www.BibleTruth.cc

  49. Miqraqodesh – the Holy AssemblyShavuot - Then Mosheh led the people out of the camp to meet with Elohim, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. (Exodus 19:17)Yom Teruah– And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (Matthew 24:31) David M Rogers www.BibleTruth.cc
