Visit TIPS online at www.americanbar.org/tips The ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) is the source of knowledge and leadership on trial practice and critical issues of justice that involve tort and insurance law. • TIPS is the only national professional group to bring together plaintiffs’ lawyers, defense lawyers and insurance and corporate counsel for the exchange of information and ideas. • The section has over 24,000 members and more than 30 general committees that focus on substantive and procedural matters • TIPS also has a variety of standing committees and task forces such as the Federal Involvement in Insurance Regulation Modernization and Health Care Reform Task Force and the Asbestos Fairness Task Force to ensure members are informed on all the latest developments affecting their area of law.

Here are a few of TIPS activities: • The Task Force on Federal Involvement in Insurance Regulation and Health Care Reform monitors, reviews and comments on federal legislation and regulations that affect the regulation of the business of insurance and health care reform. • The TIPS Audio Archive features TIPS teleconferences and webinars dating back to 2010, including all teleconferences from the 2011 Initiative on Disaster Preparedness and Response Teleconference Series. • TIPS created a Task Force on Contingency Fees that has issued a series of reports on why contingency fees remain critical to assure access to justice

Visit TIPS online at www.americanbar.org/tips TIPS Leadership Academy • TIPS became a leader within the ABA by establishing the first Leadership Academy. • The TIPS Leadership Academy aspires to serve the public by providing participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a vision to lead the legal profession and to improve leadership service in the community as a whole while also increasing the diversity of leaders within TIPS and our communities. • The curriculum is designed to nurture effective leadership with respect to ethical, professional and community service values. • Every other year, through an application process, promising leaders are selected to enrich and accelerate the development of diversified leadership within TIPS and the legal profession. • Each member participates in a TIPS General Committee in their practice area and are members of a selected TIPS Standing Committee, which are the entities that run the Section.
Visit TIPS online at www.americanbar.org/tips TIPS Scholarship Fund • Applicants are ABA and TIPS Members. • Each Applicant is assigned a number for confidentiality purposes. • Applications are to be submitted 30-45 days before day of program or meeting. • Applicants must demonstrate financial need. • Airfare and hotel expenses are reimbursable. Meals and ground transportation are not. • Each recipient is granted up to $1500 over a three-year period. Scholarships are available to financially assist members in any Section activity through the TIPS Scholarship Fund, established with the International Risk Management Institute (“IRMI”). The TIPS Scholarship Fund Board examines and approves all applications.

Fellows Program • * Applicants are ABA and TIPS Members. • Six Fellows are chosen every other year for a one-year term. • The Fellows are appointed to funded positions on TIPS Standing Committees or Task Forces and one General Committee. • The Fellows are expected to produce tangible work product for TIPS during the course of the year. TIPS is proud to announce the TIPS NOW! Fellows program for young lawyers who have demonstrated a commitment to bar-related organizations and activities.

TIPS CLE programs are practical, informative and on the cutting-edge of emerging issues.
