Wang Undergraduate Student: Minhoo Kim, Wan Li Ma Graduate Advisor: Joon Young Kim Classification through Energy Detection Using FFT data provided by sensing hardware located in access points, algorithms will be developed to detect and classify interfering signals individually based on characteristics. Current work is in the area of identifying the defining characteristics of each interferer and developing software algorithms to effectively detect possible interferers accurately. • Wifi Operation • Unregulated 2.4 and 5GHZ frequencies • 20 and 40 MHz channels • Data Acquisition Process • Each 802.11 channel is 22MHz wide. • In the U.S., there should be no operation in channel 12, 13, and 14 • The scanning process ignores the channels. The interferers can broadly be categorized as follows: Signal Data Output Narrowband with varying duty cyclesExamples of such devices include consumer microwave ovens. Different microwave ovens display differences in the frequencies they occupy as well as the duty cycles of their associated interference. Frequency HoppersExamples of frequency hopping interferers include Bluetooth devices and some cordless phones.
