  1. Do You Comply? On January 4, 2014, water works brass will change forever.

No-Lead Brass,It’s the law! • In January of 2011, the President signed into law Senate Bill 3874 and created the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act. • This legislation amended the Safe Drinking Water Act to reduce the allowable lead content in all products in contact with drinking water from 8.0% to 0.25% (weighted average).

No-Lead Brass,It’s the law! • This means all companies must use no-lead brass for products contacting potable water. • Although states may adopt an earlier timeline, the new national law goes into effect on January 4, 2014. • Not only does this mean products manufactured for potable water applications from current 85-5-5-5 brass will no longer be produced or sold, they can no longer be installed.

Frequently asked questions . . . • How will the product change? • Although the physical properties will be created from a different alloy, the look, feel, and operation of the product will remain the same. • What is the difference between No-Lead, Low Lead, Lead Free, Federalloy and EnviroBrass? • Basically, these terms all have the same meaning. The new federal law carries the most weight for the Ford Meter Box Company by specifically defining the maximum allowable lead content (0.25%) of our brass products in 2014.

  5. Frequently asked questions . . . • What products does this include? • The new law applies to the wetted surface of any product used in a potable water system. Products used for non-drinking water applications (reclaimed, industrial, irrigation, etc.) and brass service saddles (in most states) are exempt from no-lead requirements. • What can we do now? • Don’t get stuck with unusable inventory. Begin now to create a transition plan to no-lead products. We encourage you to meet with your Ford Meter Box sales representative today.

Frequently asked questions . . . • How can no-lead products be ordered? • Ford already stocks the broadest line of no-lead brass waterworks products that meet the new legislation. • Ford has the variety, selection, and inventory to handle your needs; just add the “-NL” suffix to your current part number.

Frequently asked questions . . . • How can you prepare for the new legislation? • Since all current waterworks brass inventory becomes obsolete and can not be installed or sold after January 4, 2014 (unless your state adopts an earlier deadline), begin planning now to deplete your current brass inventory, and replace with Ford no-lead brass products. • For assistance or support, contact your local Ford Meter Box representative to develop a transition plan.
