Promotion requirements To be promoted to 9th grade • You must pass 5 of 6 classes (using the end of year average). • Pass reading and math sections of the CRCT To be promoted to the 10th grade • You must pass 10 classes = 5 units • 3 of the 5 units must be in core areas • (English, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Languages)Each time you fail a course, you place yourself at risk of not graduating on time.
Number of courses taken • * 7 courses each day • *Students earn .5 units per course • * 3.5 units per semester ~ there are 2 semesters in a school year • * 7 units per year
Required 9th Grade Courses • 4 academic classes: • English, Math, Science, Social Studies • 3 electives: • Career Pathways, World Languages or Fine Arts NOTE: These courses are also required for 10th, 11th and 12th grades
English(One Required) • Ninth Grade Literature / Composition • Ninth Grade Literature / Composition-Honors
Mathematics(One required) • Coordinate Algebra • 1) Regular • 2) Accelerated
Science(One required) • Biology • Honors Biology
Social Studies (One Required) • World History • Honors World History • AP World History
Advanced Placement (AP) / Honors: • * Honors courses – Please consult your student’s teacher for a recommendation. • * AP courses – “College-level courses” • * Any student may take an Honors/AP course. • The following are highly recommended: • >Consult the subject area teacher • >The student should be passing the current subject area class with 85 or better • >Great reading and comprehension skills • >Great study habits and willingness to work hard
Required for Graduation • ½ unit of Health • AND • ½ unit of Personal Fitness • OR • 3 years of ROTC
Electives • Students can only take 2 electives during their school year. • However, during the advisement process, students are required to select 4 electives in the event one or more of their preferred electives is not available.
(Electives)World Languages • A minimum of 2 years of the same language is required for college entrance. • * Spanish, French, or Latin • * Honors Spanish or Honors French (IB) • NOTE: World language courses may differ at each Clayton County high school.
(Electives)Career Pathways Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (CTAE) Career pathways are designed to provide students with a road map to career success. Once students have selected a pathway, it is recommended that they follow this course sequence throughout their high school years.

Grading Periods • Progress reports are sent home at 4.5 weeks, 9 weeks, and 13.5 weeks. • Report cards are sent home at the end of each 18 weeks; at the end of the First and at the end of the Second semester. These are final course grades.
9th Grade Testing • PSAT – Practice “SAT” • PLAN – Practice “ACT” • Benchmark Tests • EOCT - (English / Math 1 / Biology)
Graduation Policy • ** Students must PASS all EOCT tests to meet graduation requirements. • ** There is one diploma type for all students (High School Diploma) • ** All students are required to complete a total of 23 units: • 4 units of English/Language Arts • 4 units of Science • 4 units of Math • 3 units of Social Studies • 3 units required from: Foreign Language and/or CTAE and/or Fine Arts for all students • 4 additional electives • 1 unit in Health/Personal Fitness Education or 3 years of JROTC
Support Programs • Tutoring – Each subject area has a tutoring schedule. • “No Zero Policy” – Teachers recommend students that have zeros to stay after school on Friday to make up assignments. • Saturday School Tutoring • Small group guidance • RTI/SST • Teacher/Parent Collaboration
CCPS VIRTUAL CREDIT RECOVERY • On-Line Class • Students meet in the Computer Lab • Self paced (Independent Study format) • $40 • Parents provide transportation home • There is a lab monitor, however, there is no teacher. • Athletes CAN NOT take Virtual Recovery
