UWE BristolNesli2 analysis: UWEs perspective on how the JUSP could help. David Rowe 13/02/2013
Why we do it • To make sure the Nesli2 deal still offers value for money: • For example, is cost per full text download under £1.00? • Annual housekeeping task
Current process – part 1 • Collect spreadsheets from multiple locations • Spreadsheets collected: • JR1/JR1A COUNTER reports • Publisher price lists • Maintain/core subscriptions list • Nesli2 deal title list, with pricing information
Current process – part 2 • Use Vlookups to join up information in Excel: • Core titles • Cost of titlesin the deal if purchased as individual subscriptions • JR1/JR1A: one year’s usage • Rank the titles by usage
Current process – part 3 • Calculate value of the deal • Usage for subscribed and non-subscribed titles • Cost per access • Total list price • Yield
Current process – part 4 • Check the information included is correct; is it comparable to the previous year’s analysis? • Take to the Academic Management Meeting to discuss whether the deal is still offering value for money
Problems with the current process • Version control for the multiple spreadsheets involved in the analysis process • Extremely time consuming • Questions of accuracy of the data used – Core title lists
The future of analysis: using the JUSP • Confidently locate accurate core title lists • Fewer spreadsheets and fewer Vlookups • Less staff time
Other areas of improvement • JUSP and KB+ interoperability • JUSP, KB+ and ELCAT will help the renewal process for all databases and packages, not just Nesli2 deals… That’s the dream, anyway. • More publishers, more data in one place
