Anaerobic Respiration A type of cellular respiration
Anaerobic Respiration • Form of respiration that does not use oxygen. • Less efficient than aerobic respiration
Overview • Does not use O2 • Produces 2 ATP molecules • Occurs in yeast, bacteria, and muscles
Alcoholic Fermentation • Produces alcohol (ethanol) • Used mainly by prokaryotes (no nucleus) that live in environments that lack oxygen
Lactic Acid Fermentation • Muscles do not contract easily, produces lactic acid. • Done when your circulatory system cannot keep up with the amount of oxygen your muscles are using.
Explain in 2-3 sentences how aerobic and anaerobic respiration are different.
