According to him, great leaders are outstanding at strategic planning as they can look ahead, to anticipate with some accuracy where the industry and markets are going. He further states that leaders should be self-aware of their strengths as well as shortcomings and have the confidence to surround themselves with people that can complement and compensate them in the areas where they might be lacking. Wilner believes that leadership is perhaps the most important function of management as it helps to maximize efficiency which can help to achieve the overall vision and goals of the business. It begins with the managers clearly communicating their plans and policies to their staff. According to Howard Wilner, the successful leaders have the courage to speak their minds out.
