Background • To what extent should registrants be able to reclaim their domain names after they expire? • PEDNR PDP WG was formed in July 2009 • PEDNR WG examines five questions relating to expiration and renewal practices and policies • WG is expected to make recommendations for best practices and / or consensus policies 2
Initial Report • Published in May 2010 • Results of registrar survey • Overview of WG deliberations • Compliance information • Results of WG survey outlining options for further consideration • No recommendations included 3
Public Comment Forum • Traditional comment forum as well as opportunity to respond to survey • Nine community submissions to comment forum and 412 (!) responses to survey • WG has reviewed and analyzed submissions as well as survey responses 4
Recent Developments & Next Steps • WG has compiled proposed recommendations received from WG members as well as SGs and is determining level of consensus • Among those on the calls, there has been a remarkable level of agreement on MOST issues. 5
Recommendations under consideration • Recommendations may include: • Proposals to provide registrants with guaranteed right to recover registration following expiration • Specific requirements for when and how many notices are sent prior to expiration. • How domains behave post-expiration • Exception process • RGP as a consensus policy (most Registries and all Registrars) 6
