  3. What is WasteWise? • WasteWise is a free, voluntary EPA partnership program. • WasteWise helps organizations eliminate costly waste through waste reduction practices —benefiting the organization’s bottom line and the environment. • WasteWise is flexible. 3

  4. Who Can Join WasteWise? • Any type of organization can join. • Currently, there are more than 3000 partners and endorsers in WasteWise from more than 50 sectors. • Registration is simple and available online. www.epa.gov/epawaste/partnerships/wastewise/join.htm 4

  5. Healthcare WasteWise Partners • In New England, there are currently 29 active hospital (and VA Medical Centers) locations / partners. Hospitals are usually under “Medical Services” category • In addition, Partners Healthcare System recently registered as a Partner but is not active yet.

  6. Re-TRAC Database • Partners can track activities and input data all year long • Re-TRAC is designed to be an interactive tool—not just for end-of-year reporting • Provides tangible benefit to Partners for improved data management 6

  7. Re-TRAC Database • Partners can report data for multiple locations • Ex: ACME Paper can report activities in their VA, MD, and DC offices • Need to have at least one location • Climate Profile report sums the data for all locations 7

  8. Re-TRAC Database • Numerous materials are pre-loaded for reporting • Synchronized with EPA’s WARM model • Ability to add “Other” when material is not on the list 8

Individualized Climate Profile • Calculates greenhouse gas emissions reductions resulting from waste prevention and recycling activities. • Translates these into real-life equivalents. • Valuable tool for communicating environmental benefits to management, employees, customers, and other stakeholders. 11

  13. WasteWise Partner Commitments • Register to join the WasteWise Program online via Re-TRAC Database. • Submit baseline data online and within 60 days of registration. • Report annual progress via Re-TRAC. 13

EPA’s Food Recovery Challenge The Food Recovery Challenge, part of the Sustainable Materials Management Program, challenges participants to reduce as much of their food waste as possible — saving money, helping communities, and protecting the environment. New England Healthcare Facilities are Using Energy Star • As of September 2011: - 251 New England hospital accounts have benchmarked energy performance using Portfolio Manager State breakdown: CT-52, ME-31, MA-108, NH-23, RI-8, VT-29 Benchmarking is the first step toward improving energy performance

  24. Energy Star Portfolio Upgrade! • During the spring of 2013, EPA will release a complete upgrade for its popular Portfolio Manager tool.
