Book Selection Criteria • Consideration will be given to genre diversity, gender representation, racial/ethnic diversity, and diversity of cultural, social, political, economic, and religious viewpoints. • Focus is young adult literature and must be reading level and of interest to high school age students, ages 15-18. • Books must be free of negative stereotyping. • Books must have literary merit. • List will include a range of reading levels and interests and may include up to five adult books of young adult appeal and up to five non-fiction books. • Titles must be in print & published in the past five years. Reminder: You do not have to order every single title, only you know the climate of your school and your community. Books still must go through your school/county media committee.
Nominees • The committee will select a list of twenty titles from which teens will vote/ rate books read to select the winner. • Voting will be done through high schools and public libraries • For each book read, students will give the book a rating from 0(low) to 4(high) • The committee will tally the votes and announce the Peach Award winner and two Honor books in the spring.
