  2. What is HB 5? • Reduction of EOC test from 15 to 5 • Algebra, English I, Biology, English II & US History • Change in Graduation Requirements • Removes the 15% Rule for EOC’s and Final Grades

HB 3(4x4) vs. HB 5 • 26 Credits • 4 ELA, 4 Math, 4 Science, 4 Social Studies • 1 PE, 2 Spanish, 1 Fine Art, ½ Speech, ½ Health, 5 ½ Electives • 3 Graduation Plans to choose from • 22 Credits + 4 credits towards an endorsement • 4 ELA, 3 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies • 1 PE, 2 LOTE, 1 Fine Art, 5 Electives • 4 additional credits towards an endorsement

  4. 5 Endorsements • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) • Business and Industry • Arts and Humanities • Public Service • Multidisciplinary In order to be eligible for an endorsement, a student must complete 1 additional math and science credit.

MultidisciplinaryPrerequisites: (2 of the following: IPC, Chemistry or Physics) • All Around: General Studies Emphasis • English IV • Advanced Science • Advanced Social Studies (Satisfied by Social Studies taken in 9th Grade) • Advanced Math • Advanced All Around: General Studies with Emphasis in Advanced Placement • 4 AP course credits Or • 4 Dual course credits

Graduating Distinguished • HB 3 (4x4) • Spanish 3 • 4 Advanced Measure • 4 Dual Credit Courses scoring 80 or better • 4 AP courses scoring 3 or better on the AP Exam • HB 5 (New Plan !!!) • Four Credits in Math including Algebra II • Four Credits in Science • Completion of at least one endorsement

Automatic Admission and Top 10% • Students who hope to gain automatic admission to the state’s public universities under the top 10 percent rule also must meet requirements that include earning credit for Algebra II or meeting performance requirements on a college readiness assessment. • Per Texas Education Agency Website 2/10/14

HB 5 Performance Acknowledgments • 12 hours of dual credit with a 3.0 or higher • Associates Degree earned • 3 or higher earned on an Advanced Placement Test • Commended on the Pre SAT test • 1250 earned on SAT Math & Reading Combined • 28 earned on the ACT • Spanish III + 4 ELA Credits with a 80 or higher average

Lets take a break for some FAQ. • Who is on the new plan and who is on the old plan? • Can I switch graduation plans? • Are endorsements like selecting a major? • Will every endorsement be offered? • Can my kiddos get multiple endorsements? • If I am a All Around student, does that mean that I cannot take Ag?

More FAQ? • STEM Newton: Math Emphasis will require a student to be enrolled in Algebra I in the 8th grade. • Safeguard: Social studies class taken in the 9th grade. • Can I switch endorsements at anytime? • What other math classes are available if my child is not interested in Algebra II? • ?????
