Executive Summary 2014-15 was an exciting school year! Some challenges that we were faced with included the new federal guidelines for the school lunch program, the new a la carte standards, and gaining the students’ acceptance of the whole grain requirements, reduced sodium and calorie limits. It took time for the students to accept these changes, however participation began to increase in January, and we finished the year strong. Our dietitian, Julie Rankin, revamped the menus at all levels to not only include the most popular items, but to balance the weekly menu with the required amounts of calories, carbohydrates, sodium and fat grams. She also evaluated all snack ala-carte items to ensure that they met the new Smart Snack Standards. In September 2015, we plan to have a nutritional analysis for all items served posted on the Troy web site. We are also very excited to be part of the Troy Wellness Committee, which will be evaluating potential opportunities to promote wellness & physical well-being for our students in Troy. Continuing to recommend equipment replacements and refreshing serving lines will be a primary focus for 2015-16. We truly value the opportunity to be your partner and look forward to another exciting year in 2015-16!
