  2. A root word is a word with nothing added at the beginning or the end. For example: talk

  3. You can make new words from a root wordby addingprefixes (to the beginning) or suffixes (to the end).

  4. smile If you add ‘ing’ to the end, it becomes If you add ‘ed’ to the end it becomes smiling smiled

  5. ride + ing = riding ride + er = rider

  6. walk + ing = walking walk + ed = walked

  7. Prefixes are added to the beginning of words. mis + behave = misbehave

  8. super + sonic = supersonic
