How Was My Child Identified? Home Language Survey • 1. What is the native language of the student? • 2. What language(s) is spoken most often by the student? • 3. What language(s) is spoken by the student in the home? What language is spoken most often in the home?
Who Will Be Working With My Child and How? Principal - Mrs. Walker (oversight) ELL Lead – Mrs. Perry - AP at CC (testing, plan development and oversight) ELL Certified Classroom Teachers (instruction and support) ELL Assistant - Mrs. Hurwitz
How Will Progress Be Monitored?(ACCESS Test) • Collaboration between Principal, ELL Lead, ELL Certified Classroom Teachers. • Updating of ILPs • ACCESS Test-Late January/Early February 2018
Communicating with the School • Interpreter Program • Notify school of need • 3 days in advance (sooner, if possible) • Fill out form and we will schedule an interpreter for parent conferences in October, if indicated as a need
Supporting Bilingualism • Encourage your child to stay connected to home culture and language ( through reading books, talking, watching TV, listening to music, family, etc. in native language). • Encourage your child to improve on English skills as well (through reading books, talking, watching TV, listening to music, staying connected with school, friends, etc.). • Plainfield Community School Corporation is dedicated to developing your child’s language needs both in their native language and in English!
