What Degree Plans Are There? • There are three ways to get a degree in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: • BSEE, Electrical Engineering Option • Diploma says BSEE, degree is accredited • BSEE, Computer Engineering Option • Diploma says BSEE, degree is accredited • BSCpE • Diploma says BSCpE, degree is not accredited (YET!)
What Degree Plans Are There? • There are three ways to get a degree in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: • BSEE, Electrical Engineering Option • Diploma says BSEE, degree is accredited • BSEE, Computer Engineering Option • Diploma says BSEE, degree is accredited • BSCpE • Diploma says BSCpE, degree is not accredited (We will seek accreditation as soon as we have a graduate with this degree.)
What do the Different Degrees Mean? • One view of this is in terms of the degree of computer/software emphasis • BSEE, Electrical Engineering Option • 5 Computing Courses • BSEE, Computer Engineering Option • 9 Computing Courses • BSCpE • 13.5 Computing courses • BS Computer Science • 15 Computing Courses
What if I Want Both? • Some have asked whether it is a good idea to get more than one major. • Double major? • Can’t at UH • Two undergraduate majors? • Not a good use of your time and money • Minor in Computer Science? • Better use of your time and money • Master’s Degree • Best use of your time and money
What Degree Plan Can I Follow? • You may follow the degree plan • That was in effect when you were admitted to the program (changed your major) as long as you don’t take a year off • Adopted any time after your were admitted to the program • That agrees with your major – simply fill out a General Petition Form
