  1. Problem #8 • The drawing shown indicates the charges on three objects, and the distances between charges, A and B and between charges B and C. Charges A and C are 900 apart with respect to charge B. On the drawing, show the direction of the forces acting on charge B. Calculate the total force acting on charge B.

  2. QA=-4.2x10-5 C Attractive-since one positive and one is negative QC=2.1x10-5 C QB=6.4x10-5 C Repulsive-since both are positive

  3. Problem #9 • Two identical point charges are 3 cm apart. Find the charges on each of them, if the force of repulsion of 4.00 x 10-7 N.

  4. Problem #10 • Three charges are on the same line, q1 = 2.0 x 10-6 C, q2 = 4.0 x 10-6 C, and q3 = 6.0 x 10-6 C. If q1 and q3 are 0.4 m apart and q2 is directly in the middle, what is the magnitude and direction of the net force on q2 ?

  5. q1=2.0x10-6 C q2=4.0x10-6 C q3=6x10-6 C Since all the charges are positive q2 will experience a force F23 to the left because of q3; and will experience a force F12 To the right because of q1. It is very important to draw and label the forces in the Correct direction.

  6. q1=2.0x10-6 C q2=4.0x10-6 C q3=6x10-6 C

  7. Problem #11 • A 8.0 x 10-6 C charge is located halfway between a –4.0 x 10-6 C charge and a 6 x10-6 C charge which are 40 cm apart. If all the three charges lie on the same axis, what is the magnitude and direction of the net force on the 8.0 x 10-6 C charge?

  8. q1=4.0x10-6 C q2=8.0x10-6 C q3=6x10-6 C q2 will experience an attractive force F12 because of q1 q2 will experience a repulsive force F23 because of q3 It is very important to draw and label the forces in the Correct direction.

  9. Problem #12 • Two charges 6 x 10-6 C and 15 x 10-6 C are 2 m apart. Where must a third charge be placed so that the net force on it is zero?

  10. q1=6x10-6 C q3 q2=15x10-6 C

  11. Problem #13 q2=-2x10-9 C • Find the net force q3=+5x10-9 C 4m 5m q1=+6.0x10-9 C

  12. Problem #14 F23 is going to the right, since q2 and q3 are both negative; Hence a repulsive force. q1=4.0x10-9 C • Find the net force F13 is going to the NW, since q1 is positive and q3 is negative; Hence an attractive force. 10 cm 8cm q3=-8.0x10-9 C q2=-6.0x10-9 C
