  1. Another Holocaust Survivor • View the interview of Dina Baitler, a Jew from Lithuania, who was taken to a forest in Ponary (a city in Lithuania). • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEWPx5dfj8w&feature=channel • While you watch, pay attention to her body language and the tone of her voice. What does this tell us?

  2. You are a survivor of the Holocaust • You are going to imagine that you are a survivor of the Holocaust. • You have suffered through the overcrowded ghettos, the brutality of the concentration camps, the endless beatings, and the unbearable starvation. • This is your story…

  3. Choose who you will become • Ben: • You are a survivor who was sent to a labor camp called Henrykow (in Poland) and later sent to Auschwitz. You describe the train ride to the camp in the cramped cattle car, your fear of the “showers,” and the brutal beating you endured for hiding soup. • Rudy: • You are a survivor who lived in a ghetto for 2 years and were taken to Auschwitz. You convey the startling images of the SS guards, the stench of death in the air, and the suffering and pain of starvation.

  4. Questions your interviewer is going to ask: • Where are you from?/Where were you living before you were sent to the concentration camp? • What was it like on the cattle cars? • Describe the camp(s). • What did it look like? How did it smell? How did you feel? • Tell me how the Nazis treated you. • Did you get beaten? Did you see others get beaten or even killed? • How did you survive?
