Fat Tuesday. On fat Tuesday almost every Swede take few minutes of off work to go and buy a ”Semla” A ”Semla” is what you see on the picture below, it is bread with whip cream on it and marzipan in the middle of the bread We usually buy some to take home with us as well. It was on the 8 of mars this year (2011).
Easter. The Easter bunny goes around and gives people eggs, well that's atleast what the children think, the eggs usually come from some relative of theirs or their parents, and the eggs are filled with candy! There is usually a party at Easter where we eat meatballs!, sausage and other Swedish meals.
Valborgsmässoafton Also called Walpurgis night in English. We usually get together with some friends and burn a big fire. It's celebrated on the last of May.
Midsommar On Midsummer we build the thing on the picture below using wood and flowers. We dance around and be jolly! It's celebrated on the longest day of the year. It's celebrated on a friday in June.
Crayfish party. Here in Sweden we usually have a Crayfish party when the crayfish ”season” begins but we usually have it about 1-2 times a year per family. It doesn't have to be at the beginning of the season but we usually cook the crayfish alive. It's eaten along with bread and beer.
Fermented Herring premier! Around the same time as the Crayfish party season we have the Fermented herring party. Most of the older people in Sweden like it and go to a get together to eat it. It smells awful and it tastes even worse but people still eat it. It's usually eaten with bread and/or potatoes
Lucia At the 13 of December we celebrate Lucia. In each town people vote on a girl to become Lucia and the one who wins gets to be the Lucia for this year, she and the other contestants go around and sing and stuff. The schools usually vote for a girl to become Lucia as well.
Advent! Advent are the four Sundays before Christmas and for each Sunday we light a candle, and sing a song! It's sort of a countdown to Christmas.
Christmas On Christmas familys get together and eat lots and lots of food, we give each other presents and gifts, we watch Kalle Anka at 15:00 and some time after that Santa Claus comes and gives everyone presents.
