How does ESR work with the knowledge nodes? • Identification of organizations/networks etc that could play the role of a capacity development entity for SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES OF SANITATION in eight regions/countries in the world • Transparent process • Fact finding phase • Independent scoping of each region: • Validation of scoping study result with stakeholders in each region • Preparation of draft Terms of Reference for node activities • Invitation to host the node or call for proposals • Negotiations with node hosts/evaluation of proposals and node establishment • Node starting to execute its program... Cooperate with WASTE, IRC, WSP etc

  5. Results from the scoping and validation phase for Nepal • Goal: Throughout Nepal, more people are aware of, have access to, and are practicing sustainable approaches to sanitation. This leads to a reduction in morbidity and mortality linked to poor access to sanitation facilities, and an increase in use of sanitation technologies that are environmentally-responsible. • Purpose: The Node will work towards the scaling up and mainstreaming of sustainable sanitation (SS) approaches throughout urban and rural Nepal, primarily through raising awareness, changing mindsets, developing capacity, and advocating for policy change.

Suggested Node Host in Nepal • ENPHO – Environmental and Public Health Organization • a non-profit organisation • Mission/vision: • to develop and promote appropriate technologies to enable communities to become eco-friendly • It aspires to become the lead agency on community based appropriate technology in Nepal • One of the most experienced org. in Nepal re. ecological sanitation • Strong, broad research and knowledge management mandate • Trained and experienced staff • Well established, with its own premises and good funding sources Photo: E.
