Equipment Cost • Why we need to calculate it? • Equipment cost could be calculated using: 1- Chart OR 2- Equation OR 3- Table
Factors to be taken under consideration in getting equipment cost 1- Size of equipment (e.g.: diameter, height, volume or area of heat transfer). 2- Material of construction. 3- Operating conditions (e.g.: pressure).
Cost index • Present cost=Old cost x • Old time is the time at which you calculated the cost.
Estimate the cost of the following:(a) Condenser ; fixed tube sheets, area 25.3 m2, carbon steel shell and tubes, operating pressure 1 bar. (Ans.=£ 3040) (b) Cooler ; U tubes, area 10.1 m2, carbon steel shell and tubes, operating pressure 5 bar. (Ans.=£ 1785)
2) Estimate the cost of a storage tank having the following specs ; fixed cone roof, capacity 35 m3, carbon steel. Purchased cost= C Sn (Ans. =£ 24220) Note:There is a difference between storage tank and process tank that in tables (Where the process tank may have any operation say settling, mixing).
3) Estimate the cost of a recovery column, date mid-1979 ; diameter 1 m, vessel overall height 20 m, 35 sieve plates, vessel and plates are stainless steel, operating pressure 1 bar. (Ans.=£ 41000) Note:The cost of a specialized equipment that can not be found in literature, so it can usually be estimated from the cost of components that make up the equipment.
5) Estimate the cost of the following equipment, date mid-1979, absorption column ; diameter 1 m, vessel overall height 15 m, packed height 12 m, packing 38 mm stainless steel pall rings, vessel carbon steel, operating pressure 5 bar. (Ans.=£ 11000)
