TITLE • Topic Problem • The “IF / THEN” question that I will try to answer is: “IF the (focus/independent variable)(increases/decreases/changes) THEN will that cause the (desired effect/dependent variable) of the (topic) to increase or decrease? Data J * The author/creator of all photos, images, graphics, drawings, graphs and data tables must be credited on the display board. Hypothesis I predict that if the (focus/independent variable) (increases/ decreases/changes)then the (desired effect /dependent variable)will (increase, decrease, or stay the same) because (… explain the scientific reason for the predicted results based upon your background research). Constants The constants not allowed to change that could affect the dependent variable of the experiment will be kept the same as follows:(specify exactly /quantitatively how variables, factors, conditions, procedures, techniques, equipment, consumable supplies and measurement devices will be kept the same). Research Variables What are the specific part(s) of the (focus/independent variable) that may cause the (topic) to show the (desired effect/dependent variable)? How may each specific part of the (focus/independent variable) cause the (topic) to show the (desired effect/dependent variable)? How can the (focus/independent variable) be changed or improved to try to cause the (topic) to show a(n) (increase/decrease) in the (desired effect/dependent variable)? *Focus = independent variable = IF part of the IF/THEN question **Desired Effect = dependent variable = THEN part of the IF/THEN question Materials The equipment, consumable supplies, measurement devices, and safety equipment required for this experiment includes: Equipment: Consumable supplies: Measurement devices: Safety Equipment: Data Analysis (paste Excel graph here) * The author/creator of all photos, images, graphics, drawings, graphs and data tables must be credited on the display board. Independent Variable The independent variable the scientist changed to test is (the focus, IF…). Procedure Include step-by-step instructions (like a recipe) that explain each and every constant, data measurement, safety precaution and data analysis. MEASUREMENT: The unit(s) of measurement to be used in this experiment include: The data to be measured include(s): The data will be measured and recorded every The experiment will be repeated to collect data in ____ trials. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Be sure to wear ____________________ while … Be careful not to … Dispose of ___________ as follows: • Dependent Variable • The dependent variable the experiment changed is (the desired effect, THEN…). Research Extension Clarify, narrow, focus or revise the IF/THEN question or problem that your science project will investigate Devise the step-by-step procedures Devise measuring techniques that are accurate and reliable Identify and explain proper safety techniques and proper disposal procedures for your experiment Additional Extension Research Topics Find ideas to help you invent, create, construct, make or design something unique or original Identify possible applications or uses for the results of your project Explain the benefits of solving your project or why solving your project is important Results The calculations and graphs show that the average desired effects of each experimental group are: These results demonstrate if (the focus/independent variable)(increases/decreases) then (the desired effect/dependent variable) will (increase/ decrease/stay the same). Control The control group of the experiment with the independent variable removed for baseline comparison contained (zero focus, no IF…). These abstracts may be found on the internet if you search for “science abstracts”, “science journals” or “science periodicals”. Explain the problem, hypothesis, independent variable, dependent variable, control, results, and conclusion of the experiment from the recently published research. Explain how the variables of the experiment from the recently published research are similar to your variables. Explain how the variables of the experiment from the recently published research are different from your variables. Explain how the published findings (support/fail to support ) the findings from your research. Conclusion I had predicted that if the (focus/independent variable)(increases/ decreases/changes) then the (desired effect/dependent variable) will (increase/decrease/stay the same). The following data from my results (supports/fails to support) my hypothesis: (focus/independent variable of experimental group A) (desired effect) an average of ____ (more than/less than/equal to)(focus/independent variable of experimental group B) and an average of ____ (more than/less than/equal to) the control group which received no (independent variable). The (focus/independent variable) has (a direct/an inverse/no) relationship with the (desired effect/dependent variable) of the (topic). The (focus/ independent variable) caused the (desired effect/dependent variable) to (increase/ decrease/stay the same) because . . .
