  2. The City Shumen is a city with more than 3200 years of history. It is located in northeastern Bulgaria with population of 82 000.

  3. Temples Shumen is a multicultural center where people of different religions live together peacefully - Christians, Muslims, Jews and Armenians.

  4. Shumen Plateau Nature Park The Shumen plateau is the highest of the plateaus in the Danube plain. The elements have created bizarre and fantastic rock phenomena and underground Karst forms.

  5. The Monument to the Founders of the Bulgarian State A solid sculpture composition, recreating major moments from the foundation and development of the First Bulgarian Kingdom.

  6. The Monument to the Founders of the Bulgarian State The biggest monument on the Balkan Peninsula, located in the south-eastern part of the Shumen plateau was erected in honor of 1300th anniversary since the foundation of the Bulgarian State.

  14. Wine trade in Shumen One of the oldest traditions dated from the Thracians times, is the vine growing. Wine trade has been one of the main trades of the local population for ages.

  18. Shumen Region • The towns of Pliska and Preslav - the first and the second capital of the First Bulgarian Kingdom are situated in the region of Shumen • The village of Madara – a pagan holy place dated back to the pre-Christian era.

  20. The Town of Pliska The Great Basilica, the archbishop’s residence and the first Bulgarian monastery. Prior to the construction of the basilica, there stood an eagerly Christian martyrium, comprising a cross-shaped temple and a well.

  21. The Town of VelikiPreslav The second capital of the First Bulgarian State. Administrative, government and cultural centre, where the earliest records of the Old Bulgarian and Old Slavonic letters have been found.

  22. The Madara National Historical-Archeological Reserve Proto-Bulgarian pagan temple and Christian basilica of the 9th c. Round the basilica there was a large monastery, which existed nearly four centuries.
