Hot Diggity Dog! The Perfect Hot Dog Launcher! Pg: ? Date: 9/21/12
Your Goal • Manufacture the ultimate packaged hot dog that will travel the farthest distance with accuracy. (Must land on Big Mouth
Our constants • 45 degree angle • 40 psi • One person should hold launcher • One person to turn release valve (as quickly as possible counterclockwise) • Must wear goggles • Make sure valve is closed first • Put hot dog in first • Add air
Our control • 45 degree angle • 40 psi • Your team will decide what is the “normal” packaging for your hot dog. • NOTE: You are allowed to change one variable off of your control each time.
Our control experiment • One hot dog • One bun • One piece of foil • Package for launch • Note: The control is the normal used to compare to the changes (Variable).
It’s time to shoot some hot dogs! • Brand of hot dog/bun (if hot dog is your variable, you must bring it already boiled!!!) • Setup of how you package your hot dog • Tilt/setup of launcher (Know your launcher…They have their own quirks like you) • Who will bring in what??????
Does it Follow the Scientific Method? • Do you have a question? • Did you collect info? • Do you have your Hypothesis? • Do you have your plan? Control, Variable, Constants? • Do you have your charts ready? • We will draw conclusions after we are done testing!
Investigable Question • Will changing the angle of launch, air pressure (CANNOT exceed 60 psi), or packaging most affect a successful hot dog launch/landing? • When adding your prediction, try to “think outside the bun.”
What do you need to change? • Keep track of changes in your science journal. • What do you need to bring in for your next tests? • HINT: Data tables and charts are the secret to success.
Let’s Wrap it Up! • Complete your summary in your notebooks. We hope that this will be one that we will truly “relish”. • Don’t get yourself in a pickle, there’s no time to “Ketchup”!
