6. Using information from the periodic table, predict which two elements would readily combine to make a stable compound. A. HLi B. NaCl C. NaMg D. HeNe
B Sodium (Na) has 1 electron in its outer orbit (one more than empty). Chlorine (Cl) has seven electrons in its outer orbit (one electron short of being "full"). These two elements can combine to make a stable compound, NaCl, with eight electrons in their outer orbits.

Objective • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of scientists covered up to this point in class as evidenced by accurate answers given on the upcoming unit exam
Intro to Scientists • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_C18uAZHdo
Review of Scientists • Watson & Crick • Rosalind Franklin • George Washington Carver • Mendeleev • Marie Curie
Match the following description to the scientist that we have covered: • American scientist, botanist, educator, and inventor • Best known for his many uses devised for the peanut
Who is the scientist? • Discovered the double helix structure of DNA
Who is this scientist? Russian scientist who designed the modern Periodic Table and predicted properties of elements to be discovered
Who is this scientist? • English chemist and X-ray crystallographer who made critical contributions to the understanding of the molecular structure of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal, and graphite
Who is this scientist? • Developed the term “radioactivity”
Joseph Priestly • Clergyman and Scientist who was known for his work with Gases • Most famous for his discovery of Oxygen (write this in your journals)

Make sure you are thorough in writing down information on categorizing the periodic tableYou will be allowed to use only this sheet on Thursday’s Test ORGANIZATION OF THE PERIODIC TABLE
Organization of Periodic Table • For Thursday’s test you will want to include the following on your periodic table: • NOTE: Do not use the color black *you might color over some important information • Group • Period • Metals • non-metals • Metalloids • Transitional metals • Reactive metals • Halogens • Rare Earth Metals • Noble Gases • Note categories already listed on table: main group elements, transitional metals, inter-transitional metals, etc. • Description of each according to notes
