1. Protocol for Buying Dresses for Daughter’s Wedding What should you wear on your daughter’s great day? Is there any fixed dress code that you should follow? Basically, you can wear any dress that will make you stand out amongst the guests as the mother of the bride. The traditional line of thought that you should wear something in light pastel shades that are age-appropriate and will make you look matronly is long gone. 3. Mother of the bride dressesshould not be of the same color as that of the bride or the bridesmaids. At most, you can wear the same color but of lighter or darker shades. Follow the wedding color theme if any and take your daughter into confidence on this issue.  The length of the dress and even gowns is a personal choice and there are no protocols for it though generally, long dresses and skirts are preferred for weddings for noon onwards. Mothers of the bride and the groom do not necessarily have to wear dresses of the same length but many prefer it as it makes for a more harmonious look, especially in the wedding photographs. 

4. Finally, and most importantly, there is the comfort factor. Mother of the bride dressesshould not be of very heavy material or one that is itchy, even if a dress looks pretty. You have to move around a lot on the wedding day and maybe have a dance or two and you should feel comfortable in your movements.
