  1. School and Community News Issue 4 (10-11) Friday 22nd October 2010 Pakistan Flood Appeal Thank you for the donations of copper coins which have been coming into school in support of the Pakistan Flood Appeal. We will let you know how much has been raised for this worthy cause as soon as we have a final figure. Thanks for Life - End Polio Now We ended last term with a mufti day to help raise money for the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign. We would like to share the letter of thanks we received from the Rotary Club in response to our contribution. “The members of the Rotary Club of Feltham wish to thank you, the staff and the students of Edward Pauling Primary School for the wonderful contribution you have made to the Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign. Your school’s efforts alone mean that, coupled with the matching grant made by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, over 1500 children will be vaccinated and immunised against polio. This means that 1500 young lives will be saved from this debilitating disease. We have had a long association with Edward Pauling…and trust that the school will continue to think of us as friends in the community. “ Concerns If you have a concern regarding your child please remember to make an appointment with your child’s Class Teacher - a word at the door for serious concerns is not sufficient. If, following your meeting, you feel that your concerns have not been adequately resolved please come to the School Office to make an appointment to meet with a more senior member of staff. National Film Week As part of National Film Week the children in Years 1 – 6 were fortunate enough to be invited to watch a film for free. Jacob Persaudin Purple Class wrote about his experience at Cineworld in Feltham: “I went to the cinema with my friends to watch a film. We watched ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’. I liked the ice cream part when the children throw snowballs. I like movies.” Scott Atkinson in Coral Class also wrote about going to the cinema: “We went to the cinema on Friday 15th October. We watched ‘Arthur and the Invisibles’. I thought the film was good. It was a cartoon film about a boy trying to find his grandpa, and some little people who lived underground. When the film finished we walked back to school sensibly.” Shigella Outbreak Over At the beginning of the week the Health Protection Agency declared that the mild outbreak of shigella sonnei within the school was over. As a result if your child wishes to have a water bottle in school they may bring one in after half term. It should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Also please ensure that you send back your child’s P.E. kit back on Monday 1st November after it has been washed. Behaviour Letter Earlier this week your child brought home a letter regarding appropriate behaviour from parents whilst on school grounds. About 50% of these slips have already been returned and we would like to thank those parents who were so prompt in responding to this request. If you have not done so already, please sign the slip on the bottom of the letter and return it to your child’s Class Teacher

Match Report By Cavan Letch “On Wednesday 20th October me, Kane Blackett, Ben Zend, Jordan Edmund, Connor Smith, Raphael Campbell, Ryan Partridge and Callum Ewing went to Longford School for a football tournament against Fairholme, Southville and Bedfont Primary Schools. It was pretty cold when we got there but we warmed up quickly. On the first match against Bedfont, we played well but after about three minutes they scored their first goal. Then about five minutes after that they scored their second goal. On the second match, Southville scored in seven minutes and beat us, 1-0. On the last match we played Fairholme. After five minutes they scored, but four minutes later I scored a goal so the final result was a one all draw.”
