Current version: ISDSv2.21 Downloadable from the SSC: http://sirtf.caltech.edu/SSC/OST/isds.html Release notes/bug reports available from: http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/~mashby/isds.html IRAC Science Data Simulator ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • Potential and actual uses for simulated data: • SSC: stress-test BCD pipeline algorithms • GTO teams: validate GTO plans • IOC: practice data reduction (esp. focus) • Assess impact of shutterless operation • Understand/correct instrumental artifacts • Other uses? ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • ISDS simulates step-and-stare observing: • User processes AORs to create pseudo-command expansions (.isds files) • .isds files parsed by ISDS to simulate pointing commands and project IRAC FOV onto truthimages • output: simulated IRAC science data ISDS v 2.21
Four inputs required: 1. Four ‘Truthimages’ 2. At least one AOR (from SPOTv6.1) 3. Image library 4. User parameters ISDS outputs: pseudo-command expansion Raw/BCD IRAC data (FITS files) IRAC Science Data Simulator ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • Input AORs created by SPOTv6.1: • arbitrary number of AORs in a SPOT file • clustered AORs not supported • subarray, ped-sig modes not supported • dither patterns hard-wired Intermediate output product: A text file with all IRAC/PCS commands necessary to carry out the AOR. ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • ISDS requires four truthimages: • populated with IR sources • PSF assumed known • noiseless • IR background optional • arbitrary pixel scale ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • ISDS requires a library (FITS files): • derived from ground testing of flight hardware • gain maps • dark charge maps • linearity coefficients • cosmic ray templates (InSb, SiAs) ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • User tailors output to task: • ‘raw’ or BCD-flavored FITS files • toggle instrumental artifacts (e.g., multiplexer bleed, image latency) • toggle observatory artifacts (e.g., jitter, pointing errors) ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • A ‘raw’ channel 1 frame with a saturated star ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • 36-point Reuleaux dither pattern, minimumdither scale, 30 s exposures in IRAC channel 3 ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • C2d truthimage for ChameleonII, 3200x3200 IRAC pixels • stars plus dust ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • Subset of ChamII truthimage ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • Simulated IRAC ISDS mosaic built with IRAF’s imcombine • channel 1 only • 12 s frames only ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • Simulated IRAC ISDS mosaic built with IRAF’s imcombine • channel 1 only • 12 s frames only ISDS v 2.21
IRAC Science Data Simulator • Planned improvements: • Geometric and photometric distortion • Banding effect • Position-dependent PSF • Variation in effective wavelength across the FOV • Incremental updates to output FITS headers • Improved dither patterns (subpixel dithering) ISDS v 2.21
