This study explores the matter effects in a rank-1 see-saw model of neutrino masses, examining the direction of a single massive sterile eigenstate in space defined by Dirac mass eigenstates. It provides a structure illuminated by a 4x4 analytic example with pseudo-Dirac pairs, along with the content of mass eigenstates for 6x6 pseudo-Dirac pairs. The study concludes that solar neutrinos do not rule out light pseudo-Dirac pairs, and matter effects on other experiments may uncover evidence for light sterile neutrinos.
