  1. Aim: How did the Greeks contribute to the western world? Do Now: What is the western world? From which of the Poleis do you think many of these contributions came from?

  2. Despite their differences, a common Greek culture • Why is there a common culture among Greeks? • Religion • Panhellenic festivals • Olympic Games, Dionysus Festivals

  3. Museum Activity • Go from station to station and complete the worksheets provided. These will be handed in for a grade. • You may move through at your own pace!

  4. How did the Greeks explain the world? • Greek Mythology – Zeus, Apollo, Poseidon, Ares etc.

Greek Philosophers • Philosophers, “lovers of wisdom” • How did they differ from previous perspectives? • Use of rhetoric • Socrates and his death • “An unexamined life is not worth living” • Socratic Method—questioning. Will you remember to pay the debt?” • Plato’s Republic and the intellectual hierarchy • Contemporary of Socrates • The Academy • Three Classes (w, s, pk) • Search for beauty and the ideal form • Aristotle as the “master of those who know” • Feelings on Democracy Why do Plato and Aristotle develop poor views of Democracy? Are they accurate?
